Like a family wedding
Or beach trip to the bay
Once in while
Matty will hit one
With the reigns of defence cut
Under Perrin, Portsmouth has something
A weapon of wicked incisiveness
That could strike at any moment
But the hype grew
And pressure built
After the stadium of light
Became host to the breakthrough
A player with freedom to boast
And improvisation to rival
Teams that were performing
At much a higher level.
He stuck to the south coast
With better offers elsewhere
As this volley will be the cornerstone
Of any of his future choices.
Kanu, rarely first to any ball
Gets infront of a sliding foot
As the balls pops off his knee
And loops high
Taylors eyes shoot wide
As he watches the grooves of the sphere
Turn as it falls
For an almost egotistical effort.
The ball guided high
Seemingly too much to dip
But it defied
And gravity dragged it over Howard
With clenched fist
Pushed to his pursed lips
Fratton park at thunder

Had to look up the Wikipedia profile for this player. But having read that, I have to say the poem is brilliantly composed.
