Liverpool look for a left-back

With Emiliano Insua and Fabio Aurelio both leaving Liverpool this summer, the search is on to find a replacement left-back.

Wayne Bridge, Marcell Jansen, Maynor Figueroa and Paul Konchesky have been mentioned as potential targets, but the club will face a struggle in landing any of them. Until they land some cover in that position, there won't be too many people willing to bet Premier League money on them.

It is unlikely Manchester City would want to sell Bridge to a rival, so he will probably stay put. German international Jansen's agent this week confirmed Liverpool were interested in his player but indicated that a move probably won't happen. Jansen played for Germany at this summer's World Cup and impressed last season for his club Hamburg in the Bundesliga, so they are keen to keep a hold of him.

The two most likely signings are Figueroa and Konchesky. Wigan's Figueroa has been impressive since he arrived in England and fans will know the Honduran for his goal against Stoke last season, when he launched a quick free kick from his own half to beat keeper Thomas Sorenson.

Paul Konchesky played under Hodgson at Fulham and the new Liverpool boss is reportedly keen to link up with the player again. The 29-year-old has played twice for his country and scored against Liverpool for West Ham in the 2006 FA Cup Final.

Liverpool's glory days are at an end for now, but you can bet Championship football won't be played at Anfield any time soon. The new manager just needs to get on with rebuilding.

Konchesky wouldn't be a signing that would excite that many of their fans, but then several of Liverpool's supposedly exciting signings have failed to deliver. Hodgson could do worse than bring a Mr Reliable to the club for a change.
